Evidence for an Engineered Universe

Evidence for an Engineered Universe

Walter Bradley (Baylor University)

In the discipline of engineering, design is always associated with purpose. Purpose in turn implies an intelligent cause that acts freely and volitionally. This presentation will explore the considerable evidence that the universe has been designed and will also consider arguments to the contrary. In particularly, the following kinds of evidence will be considered: (1) evidence that the universe began (2) that it has mathematical form; (3) that the fundamental laws of nature are each essential to a universe that can support complex, conscious life; (4) that the universal constants are finely tuned; (5) that the initial conditions are extremely demanding, and (6) that planet earth is unique in ways that are both essential to life and unlikely to have been duplicated elsewhere in the universe. Alternative arguments such as the multi-universe will also be considered.
